¡Hola chicas!
Hello girls! For some of you the definitive and very often count down for your wedding day has begun and clearly it is posible that at any momento you are asalted by doubts such as: My God, Have I done it alright? Relax, to be sure you have taken the right road we are going to remind you of the most important protocol rules to be sure your guests see that you are the perfect organizers! They are not rigid rules, but rather, the basics of good education that help everything run smoothly. Errors occur frequently when you do not know the rules and you can offend some of your principal guests without realizing it. For example, seating the mother of the groom in the wrong place, or a close relative cannot see the ceremony while a friend of the bride has a better view. To avoid embarrassments, we will go over some points to keep in mind.
INVITACIONES / INVITATIONS
Your invitations to your wedding should be sent out between six and three months before the wedding, in fact a year in advance if the people have to come from other countries and have to organize their agendas and personal vacations. You cannot ever advise people only a month or two in advance because you will be putting your guests under pressure to make arrangements too quickly . Better with time and relaxation. Habitually, following protocol, the details of the bride go on the left of the invitation and those of the groom on the right. However, for more modern couples who chose less conventional invitations, it is not too important as the designs are very different from more classical ones.
LISTAS DE BODA O CUENTA BANCARIA / WEDDING LISTS OR BANK ACCOUNTS
Quite to the contrary of what you might think, (and sadly far too frequent) you should never include your bank account number or your wedding gift list with the invitation. It is better to send it in a card a few weeks later with an elegant notesaying you look forwrd to their attendene.
PAMELAS Y TOCADOS / HATS AND OTHER TOUCHES
If your marriage is in the morning it is correct for your guests to wear hats, and if it is evening or nightime, a simple touch is indicated. In both events, they should not be removed until the ceremony and the meal or dinner are over, and perhaps, not until the sound of the last song. If they wear a hat, they should use gloves, or carry them. Otherwise, gloves are not obligatory.
Only the bride wears White. No guest should come to the ceremony wearing White, it is rude, unless the couple have asked the guests to a White celebration. This color is absolutely reserved for the protagonist of the day, the bride!
DENTRO O FUERA /INSIDE OR OUTSIDE
Where and how should the groom await his bride? Inside or outside? Alone or accompanied? These are frequent questions and easily answered. He can await her inside or out, and for each case there is an order to follow.
The ideal is to arrive 20 minutes before the brideand await her accompanied by his best man or the bride’s maid of honor. The bride should not make him wait too long and in all events never more than fifteen minutes. To the contrary that generates a general discomfort that benefits no one., especially the groom who could panic and imagine she is not coming! In the case of the groom awaiting the bride outside , they ought to follow the following order:
- Bride holding onto the right arm of her father
- Pages or /and
- Maids of honour
- Maid of honour holding onto the Groom’s right arm
- Father of the groom and mother of the bride on his right arm
- And finally witnesses two by two preferably in pairs.
If the groom awaits the bride at the alter:
- Groom and Maid of honour holding his right arm (wait at the alter until the bride arrives)
- Bride holding her father’s right arm
- Pages and Maids of honour
- Father of the groom and mother of the bride hoding his right arm
- Witnesses two by two, preferably in pairs.
During the ceremony the bride habitually is on the left next to the Maid of honour and the groom is on the right next to the Best Man. The family and guests of the bride are seated on the left and those of the groom on the right. The order for others is family in front and friends behind them..
LA SALIDA DE LOS NOVIOS / THE EXIT OF THE COUPLE
According to the rules of protocol, the guests should never leave before the couple, although often they do just the opposite! The ideal is that the bride and groom go directly to the car and they greet the guests at the reception. However, the custom in Spain is just the opposite. The guests leave the ceremony quickly so they can throw rice and flower petals at the newlyweds. Since we are talking about throwing things at the newleyweds, it has become fashionable to throw soap bubbles instead of other traditional things! But in any case the protocol does not contemplate launching anything .
